Lakers Fans Go Berserk As Cavaliers Pummel L.A. 102-87!
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Game Recap

Well it turns out that Sports Fans from Los Angeles are not always “laid-back.” Christmas Day the Staples Center did not draw a crowd filled with thoughts of “Peace On Earth And Good Will Towards Your Fellow Man.” The fans were a lot more comparable to the crowd at the Palace of Auburn Hills a few years back during a game between the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons.
No Cleveland Cavaliers players went into the stands but there was quite a bit of debris that was being thrown from the stands onto the court. Most of the refuse consisted of foam rubber replicas of those creepy LeBron and Kobe puppets that eerily seem to be making a comeback. (This reporter truly despises two commercials that have run over the last couple of years. Those cavemen and those puppets; if those puppets stick around as long as the cavemen have I may lose my mind.)
Lakers fans were upset after Lamar Odom was ejected from the game in the fourth quarter. However what probably frustrated them the most was the poor performance of their team as Cleveland shot 54.3% (38-70) while holding Los Angeles to 36.5% (31-85) for the game. The Cavaliers won in a rout drubbing the Lakers 102-87; Mo Williams led his team with 28 points while LeBron James added another 26. Kobe Bryant led all players with 35 points however only two of his teammates scored in double figures.
The Lakers never seemed to get into a good offensive rhythm until the fourth and by then it was far too little and far too late. Neither team were offensive dynamos in the first but the Cavaliers did have the lead as the period drew to a close with the score 23-19. The Cavaliers were able to expand their margin in the second quarter and would head into the locker room at the half on top 51-42.
This Lakers team is capable of coming bigger deficits than the one they face as they returned to the court in the third however they would proceed to dig their hole even deeper. Los Angeles could only scrape together 17 points in the third quarter and coincidentally they would trail Cleveland by the same margin at the end of the period with the score 76-59. Except for the behavior of the crowd the fourth quarter was meaningless as Cleveland walked away with an easy victory. The Cavaliers finish their four game road trip with a 3-1 record.
Mo Williams scored 28 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 1 steal while LeBron James added 26 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block. Jamario Moon came off the bench with 13 points while former Lakers center Shaquille O’Neal knocked down 11 more.
Kobe Bryant had a game high 35 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals in the loss. Ron Artest scored 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal while Pau Gasol added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist. Cleveland is now at 23-8 and will play host to the Houston Rockets Sunday while the Lakers are now 23-5 and will play Saturday night in Sacramento against the Kings.
