The Houston Rockets have been an inspirational story so far in the NBA campaign as they have far exceeded any NBA observer’s most optimistic predictions. Houston playing without All-Star center Yao Ming and a very limited contribution from All-Star guard Tracy McGrady went into their game at the Q Arena in Cleveland Sunday night with a record of 18-12. The team has ridden the coattails of the unlikely trio of  Trevor Ariza, Aaron Brooks and Carl Landry coming off the bench. Well Sunday night that line-up was absolutely shut down in the second half by the Cleveland Cavaliers as the Rockets scored just 35 points in the half and the Cavaliers came back from their four game road trip with a 108-83 victory.

Cavaliers All-Star forward LeBron James scored a game high 29 points and Mo Williams added another 20 while Brooks led Houston with 23 points. It was the fourth straight win for Cleveland who started off their road trip with a loss in Dallas but would win the next three including a Christmas Day victory over the L.A. Lakers. Sunday was the last game of a three game road trip for the Rockets who were not as fortunate ending the trip with a 1-2 record.

The two teams played each other to a draw in the first as the score at the end of the period was deadlocked at 24-24. The Cavaliers would have a slight advantage as the game reached the half heading into the locker toom on top 51-48.

The third was the decisive quarter in this contest as Cleveland more than double Houston’s point total in the period and would hold an 83-63 heading into the final 12 minutes of play. The Cavaliers lead would increase by and additional 5 points in the fourth as Cleveland sent the Rockets back to Houston with a wonderful memory to re-live on the plane ride.

LeBron James had a game high 29 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block while Mo Williams put up 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Shaquille O’Neal would record a double-double with 13 points, 11 boards, 4 assists and 1 block while Zydrunas Ilgauskas came off the bench and scored 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal.

Aaron Brooks led the Rockets as he scored 23 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Trevor Ariza had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists while Carl Landry also added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 1 block. Cleveland with the victory now has a record 0f 24-8 and will be in Atlanta Tuesday to take on the Hawks while Houston is now 18-13 and will host the Hornets Tuesday.
