Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Game Recap

The Cleveland Cavaliers shot a scalding 57.5% (43-75) and 50% (11-22) from behind the arc Wednesday night as they roasted the visiting Washington Wizards 121-98. Day One without their embattled star Gilbert Arenas who is under an indefinite suspension from the NBA did not work out very well for the Wizards. Cleveland would absolutely dominate them in the second quarter putting the Cavaliers way ahead at the half and Washington never recovered. Antawn Jamison scored a game high 26 points however that was not enough to deter their opponents from securing the victory. The total points scored by the Cavaliers in the game was a season high for the club.
The Wizards elected to start Earl Boykins in place of Arenas who was suspended earlier in the day by NBA Commissioner David Stern for violating Association policy. The veteran had admitted to storing weapons in his locker in the Washington locker room and is on an indefinite suspension as the Association decides what punishment to dole out to the Wizards guard.
Cleveland took control in the first and then basically put the game away in the second. The Cavaliers would end the first quarter on top 29-23. They then proceeded to take into another gear in the second as they would head into the locker at the half with a 65-43 advantage.
Washington exploded for 37 points in the third; unfortunately for them Cleveland would do almost as well scoring 36 points in the quarter and heading into the fourth they would lead by a 101-80 margin. The Wizards never even came close to threatening in the final 12 minutes of play.
LeBron James led the Cavaliers attack as he knocked down 23 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 assist in just 31 minutes on the court. Shaquille O’Neal in just 17 minutes scored 17 points while Anthony Parker added 16. Delonte West came off the bench and had 14 points while Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Anderson Varejao would each contribute 12 points in the victory.
Jamison led all players as the Wizards forward put up 26 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal while Randy Foye came off the bench and scored 18 points, 2 assists and 2 rebounds. Nick Young had 14 points while Earl Boykins and Andray Blatche each added 10. Cleveland improves to a record of 28-9 and will play on Friday in Denver as they face the Nuggets while Washington is now 11-22 and will host the Orlando Magic Friday.
