It is a good thing that the San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz are playing most of their games against each other at this juncture of the season. Prior to Wednesday night’s game between the two squads, the Jazz has had the Spurs’ number, defeating them three straight.
Carlos Boozer and Andrei Kirilenko had their A-game going on as they exploited the Spurs’ frontcourt, combining for 57 points and helping Utah defeat San Antonio for the fourth time this season 105-98 at AT&T Center.
The Spurs had a terrible beginning as they missed their first eight shots; however, a 25-0 run over 5 minutes in the first half helped San Antonio recover somewhat, as they took a 50-45 lead into the intermission. Utah would claw back as they outscored San Antonio 29-20 to take a slim 74-70 lead going into the final period. Matters were settled with 30.1 seconds left in the game as Boozer drew a sixth foul on Tim Duncan; he would calmly drain a pair of free throws to seal the win for the Spurs.
Boozer led the Jazz with 31 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and 3 blocks while Kirilenko added 26 with 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block; Deron Williams scored 18 with 5 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 steals and a block.
The Spurs were led by Manu Ginobili with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, a steal and a block while Tony Parker chipped in 20 with a rebound, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block; George Hill added 16 with 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
