LaMarcus Aldridge (#12)

You have to admit at least this much – the Portland Trail Blazers are an amazing ballclub, in light of their current circumstances. They’ve been been bit by the injury bug just about all season, especially at center and most recently, Brandon Roy. Despite it all, they always seem to find a way to win most nights.

In Wednesday night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, the hero for the Blazers would be Martell Webster as he would score 10 fourth quarter points, which would prove to prove big as Portland would escape from the Rose Garden with a 96-93 win over San Antonio.

A George Hill jumper would put the Spurs ahead 46-38 midway through the sec0nd period but the Blazers tied it at 46 after three consecutive baskets by Dante Cunningham; Portland would take a 49-48 lead on a Webster 3-pointer, but San Antonio would go into the intermission with a 53-51 advantage.

Manu Ginobili hit back-to-back treys to put the Spurs up 74-66 at the end of the third and would begin to pull away; they would lead by 10 early in the fourth quarter, but the Trail Blazers made it 85-83 on a Nicolas Batum layup. After Ginobili hit a jumper, Webster’s three-pointer narrowed it to 87-86 with 3:38 left to go. LaMarcus Aldridge drained a jumper with 2:54 remaining  to give Portland the lead and Webster would seal the game for the Trail Blazers with a 3 with 22.9 seconds left in the contest.

Aldridge led the Trail Blazers with 28 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal while Webster added 21 (including a perfect 5-for-5 from beyomd the arc) with 5 rebounds and 3 assists; Andre Miller secured a double-double, scoring 11 with 4 rebounds and 10 assists.

Ginobili came off the bench to lead the Spurs with 21 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal while Tony Parker added 18 with a rebound, 6 assists anda steal; Hill chipped in 16 with a rebound and a block while Tim Duncan poured in 15 with 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

Portland (30-22) plays again on Saturday when they host the Los Angeles Lakers while San Antonio (28-20) continues their road trip, travelling south to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers – also on Saturday night.
