Kings End Six-Game Skid, Edge Knicks In OT 118-114

The New York Knicks, in their game against the Sacramento Kings at Madison Square Garden, looked completely unlike the Knicks team that was 12 games below .500 prior to the tip-off.

But then came the fourth quarter collapse.

The Knicks were up by as many as 15 in the final period, but Tyreke Evans led a spirited comeback which would send the game into overtime and Kevin Martin scored eight points in the extra frame, helping Sacramento escape MSG with the 118-114 win over New York.

The Knicks were hot in the game’s first four minutes as they took an 11-4 lead on a Danilo Gallinari three-pointer and would briefly extend their lead into double-digits before settling for a seven-point advantage going into the second quarter. New York would take a 41-30 lead on a Al Harrington layup before Sacramento went on a 10-0 run, capped by a Donte Greene dunk, before the Knicks took a timeout. Jon Brockman’s jumper gave the Kings their first lead of the game at 42-41 before the Knicks regained the advantage and would go into their locker room with a 56-52 lead.

There were two ties in the second half’s first two minutes bef0re New York built their lead up to nine on a Wilson Chandler jumper with 2:47 remaining in the third period and would go into the fourth quarter up by eight. The Knicks extended their lead to 15 on a Nate Robinson jumper with 7:35 left, but the Kings would slowly chip away at the New York advantage before Evans scored 10 points in a 1:28 span and Jason Thompson’s dunk tied the game at 105. After a New York timeout, Chris Duhon missed a 24-footer, which would send the game into overtime.

Martin would score eight points in the extra period, with his 3-pointer at the 2:43 maek giving Sarament a 114-100 lead; Robinson would put New York within two but Greene’s tip-in with 1:01 would ice the game for the Kings.

Evans led all Kings scorers with 27 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal while Greene added 24 (including four treys) with 8 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal; Omri Casspi poured in 18 with 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals while Martin, in a rare bench appearance, chipped in 17 with 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal.

The Knicks were led by Wilson Chandler with a season-high 35 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks while David Lee added 21 with 10 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal and a block; Al Harrington chipped in 17 (including 3 three-pointers) with 2 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal while Jared Jeffries notched a double-double, scoring 13 with 10 rebounds, 2 assists2 steals and a block.

Sacramento (17-34) plays again on Wednesday when they face the Pistons while New York (19-32) goes into the All-Star break and doesn’t play again until next Tuesday when they travel to Chicago to take on the Bulls.
