Howard, Magic Overwhelm Warriors 117-90

Dwight Howard (#12)

The Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night came to Amway Arena in a sorry state, personnel-wise. They were undersized, as usual, but also undermanned as they were missing Corey Maggette, Vladimir Radmanovic, Andris Biedrins, and most importantly, Monta Ellis.

On the flip side, their opponent, the Orlando Magic, was at full strength, and it showed during their game. Dwight Howard, as is his tendency, ruled in the paint and just made things miserable for the Warriors, in general. He scored 28 points in leading Orlando to the embarrassingly easy 117-90 win over Golden State.

Vince Carter helped commence the rout with nine points in a 26-8 run in the second quarter, including a pair of three-point plays over Stephen Curry, to give the Magic a 64-45 lead.

Orlando scored the first 10 points of the second half behind three-pointers by Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson, and eventually settled into a 30-point lead. Golden State, depleted of energy on this second game of a back-to-back set, would never recover.

Six Magic players scored in double-digits, led by Howard with 28 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks while Lewis drained 17 (including 3 three-pointers) with 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal; Carter added 15 with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Warriors were led by C.J. Watson with 18 points, a rebound, 3 assists and 4 steals while Anthony Morrow added 16 (including 3 treys) with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals; Ronny Turiaf and Reggie Williams chipped in 13 each – with Turiaf grabbing 3 rebounds, dishing out 2 assists, along with 2 blocks while Williams grabbed 6 boards and dishing out 3 assists.

Orlando (42-20) plays again on Friday when they travel to New Jersey to take on the Nets while Golden State (17-43) makes the short trip to Atlanta to face the Hawks – also on Friday night.
