The Boston Celtics do not have a true presence at center, especially with the Rasheed Wallace situation. But that doesn’t preclude the Celtics from being proative as Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the team is actively pursuing current Chicago Bulls center Brad Miller.
One thing working in the team’s favor is that they can spend a mid-level exception on Miller and that Wallace departing saves Boston around $13 million over the next two seasons, hence the mid-level.
It is tough to say if durability will be an issue with Miller as he played 82 games with Chicago last season; it obviously is a non-issue with the Celtics.
But you can rest assured that Boston isn’t the only team pursuing Miller right now. Another thing before I forget – there is the injury to Kendrick Perkins, which will require a lengthy rehab period. So you can say there is a sense of urgency with the Celtics securing a big man – Miller or someone else – well before training camp.
In the NBA, at the very least, you need a serviceable – at least – center to be successful. the Boston Celtics had that in Wallace; however, if they cannot obtain a center within a reasonable timeframe, I will go on record and say that the Celtics will not visit the playoffs during the 2010-11 campaign.
