New York Knicks Ready For Life Without LeBron

Lost in the hysteria of last night’s “The Delusional“, I mean “The Decision” was an immediate sign and trade made by the New York Knicks, sending the heart and soul of the team for the past five years, David Lee, to the Golden State Warriors. In return, the Knicks got Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf and Kelenna Azubuike.

After the Knicks officially welcomed Amar’e Stoudemire to the team earlier this week, David Lee all but expected his exit from New York. According to Lee’s Agent, Mark Bartelstein, the deal is worth around $80 million over five years with The Warriors.

At first, it was sad to see such a great homegrown talent leave the team, but from what I’ve heard from Warriors’ fans is that the Knicks got a group of three young promising ballplayers, who enjoy (but not necessary good at) playing hard nose defense. These are the types of personalities recent Knicks’ teams have been starving for, and perhaps this starts a new era and style of Knicks basketball.

If the season started today, here is how the Knicks lineup would pan out:

PG: Toney Douglas , TDB (Potentially: Luke Ridnour, Raymond Felton)
SG: Wilson Chandler, Azubuike, Rautins.
SF: Gallinari, Bill Walker, Landry Fields.
PF: Stoudemire, Randolph.
C: Turiaf, Curry, Jerome Jordan.

Take a minute to breath and let the color back in your face Knicks Fans. Although its not an All Star lineup, gone are the days of overpaid veterans who were on their way out of the NBA. Yes, I’m talking about you Steve Francis, Stephon Marbury, Vin Baker, Howard Eisley, Glen Rice and let’s throw Penny Hardaway on there. And in is a team that has a direction, and a management that has done it’s job by clearing cap space to build a winner. The only question is, how much longer will fans have to wait for all their hard work to pay off?
