As I had previously reported on Monday, Tyson Chandler, according to Yahoo! Sports, was supposed to be dealt from the Charlotte Bobcats to the Toronto Raptors.
It appears that there are a change of trade plans.
The Bobcats sent Chandler and Alexis Ajinca to the Dallas Mavericks for Erick Dampier, Eduardo Najera, Matt Carroll and cash. An interesting trade that went down because Charlotte got some salary cap relief with Dampier’s non-guaranteed $13 million contract while Chandler got dumped to his third team in just one year.
According to Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins, Dampier will either be waived or get traded again; the trade also allows Charlotte to clear about $7 million in cap space due to letting go of Chandler’s and Ajinca’s contracts while absorbing Najera’s ($2.8 million) and Carroll’s ($4.3 million).
For right now, Boris Diaw remains a Bobcat; for how long he sticks in Charlotte is anyone’s guess. Higgins has also said that the Bobcats aren’t done dealing, with obtaining a point guard a priority. Kind of makes sense since the only 1 they have currently signed is D.J. Augustin. Safe to say that this is a baptism-under-fire for team owner Michael Jordan as he is relatively new to the dealing game.
