King The Favorite To Become Nets GM

According to SI.com’s Chris Mannix – by his Twitter account, no less – Billy King is very close to becoming the New Jersey Nets’ next general manager and is very close to an agreement on a contract. King met with Nets management Tuesday for the team president’s job.

One thing that is working in King’s favor is that he is garnering support form recently hired coach Avery Johnson and recently-departed president/GM Rod Thorn and has realized some success as a GM, having help build the Philadelphia 76ers into a team that went to the NBA Finals in 2001.

Should King be hired by the Nets as team president, Bobby Marks, the current VP of basketball operations, would probably be promoted to GM.
