The Chicago Bulls were very close to obtaining a bench shooting guard for themselves; however, the Orlando Magic ensured that wouldn’t happen as the Associated Press reports that the Magic matched the offer that the Bulls put on the table for J.J. Redick.
The offer that the Bulls offered Redick was for three years and $19 million.
Because Redick was a restricted free agent, Orlando had seven days to match any qualifying offer. By the Magic matching, they not only doubled Redick’s salary for the length of the contract, they also inched closer to the luxury tax threshold.
As has been the case for Redick, he will once again provide shooting depth from off the bench for the Magic, presumably backing up Vince Carter and on occasion Rashard Lewis.
