Raptors GM Bashes Bosh

Paul sent this in:

It seems that General Managers didn’t learn anything from Dan Gilbert’s $100,000 public bashing of LeBron James.  Raptors General Manager Bryan Colangelo, in a recent interview with Toronto’s The FAN 590 radio station, let the public know his true feelings about once beloved superstar Chris Bosh.

Although Colangelo used his words a bit more conservatively, he goes on to say: “Whether he was mentally checked out or just wasn’t quite into it down the stretch, he wasn’t the same guy. I think everybody saw that, but no one wanted to acknowledge it.”

Colangelo went on to add that it wasn’t just the management’s fault for not building a championship caliber team in Toronto:, “We tried in vain to put pieces around Chris. Different pieces, different styles. It didn’t work out.” “No matter what type of player we brought in, it didn’t seem to have the right mix with him as that centerpiece.”

Whether these feelings hold true throughout the entire organization remains to be seen, but no one will believe for once second that Colangelo wasn’t trying everything in his power to retain Bosh.

And as far as Bosh giving up on the Raptors last season, that too is hard to believe considering that Bosh had his best season statistically last season for the team with 24 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.

Stay tuned to Slam Dunk Central to find out if Colangelo will have to make out a check out to David Stern over these comments.

As per the interview with Bryan Colangelo on fan 590 was of no bashing of Bosh.

    Please listen to the interview:

If you were to listen to the interview: You would notice that Bryan was explaining the difficulties of building a team around bosh as the centre pieces, why the wheels came off at mid season with 29 wins, when he started noticing signals that bosh may not want play with toronto further along.

Bryan stated the difficulties of using bosh as the centre piece of the franchise. Since Bryan’s inception to this fortunate franchise we had such players like Shawn Marion, Jermaine O’Neal, Hedo Turkulo etc all of which worked but didn’t maintained when it all neeeded too. There were times the offense was stagnated and it wasn’t bosh to blame or any of the superstar that played with him. It was the idea of building around him, that system wasn’t working at all. Even Bosh realised this, why do you think he jetted for Miami.

He also explained why the wheels came off at mid season with the raptors as the 4th place in the Eastern Conference. He mentioned that Bosh underwent a spraint angle causing him to miss more than several games which as ultimately contributed for the team not making the play offs. He specificly mentioned that this wasn’t bosh to blame but the system was setup around bosh and because of his absense affected the winning strategy.

As an intelligent general manager he stated through observation he noticed Chris Bosh had a different personality after returning from the allstar break. He seemed to have a different agenda, maybe because of the time he was with his friends. During that time after realising being center piece not working out and saw that playing with Wade & Lebron is something that can bring him a championship. Bryan believes that Bosh decided to leave then.

The interview was of NO bashing! Bryan Colangelo deserves respect, he is a professional man, he has spend few decades in the basketball industry and very aware of how and when to speak, also the fans in toronto have great respect for his decisions and his work with the toronto raptors.

Not sure if that’s exactly patting Bosh on the back, to tell the media that the face of the franchise quit on the team in the middle of a playoff race.

  3. [...] Last week Slam Dunk Central reported that Raptors GM, Bryan Colangelo, publicly stated how Chris Bosh, the face of the franchise for seven years, “quit” on the Raptors last season. [...]
