Isiah Thomas Double-Dipping?

This is the first time on my adult life that I have heard of a former NBA player, under the employ of an NCAA basketball program, be allowed to also work for a NBA franchise in a consultant capacity.

Yet that seems to be the case, according to the “New York Post” as NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, currently the coach for Florida International, apparently is also working for the team that fired him, the New York Knicks.

The bone of contention here is whether Thomas working for both Florida International and the Knicks violates  any NBA rules that may be in the books.

The plot thickens a bit as the NCAA says that everything appears to be OK to that end while the NBA is reviewing the issue.

Sounds like a precedent would be set here assuming that Thomas works for both entities. But it seems to me that there is a gray area in this matter, at the same time.

What is funny about all of this is that James Dolan, owner of the Knicks, is the individual who dismissed Thomas not that long ago. So why does he need Thomas’ services now?

I would think that Donnie Walsh, president of the NBA franchise, is being undermined should this take place. If David Stern was smart, he woudl put the kibosh on this matter once and for all.

And quite frankly, Dolan should really let someone take over his duties as his overall body of work as owner speaks for itself.
