Carl Landry Is King – Kings Beat Wolves 117-116!

Wow. That wasn’t the season opener I expected. I cracked my Keystone light and didn’t put it down till the last buzzer. This game was fantastic. ZERO Defense…who would have thought the Kings and Wolves would put up an offensive explosion?

Our boy DMAC wasn’t too much of a factor this game as he fought through foul trouble. His stat line was decent – 27 minutes, 5 for 10 shooting, 8 boards, 5 assists, and 14 points. All in all not bad for the rook’s first game.

The guards came up big tonight (which I expected with “Mr Speedy” Evans suspended). Ben Udrich played a ton – 39 minutes, 7 for 15 shooting, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 18 points. WHILE Garcia played 34 minutes, 7 for 12 shooting, 3 steals, and 22 points. Combined Udrich and Garcia gave 40 points at the guard position. This win could not have happened without their superb play and fantastic low post presence from Landry. Landry put up 22 points, 11 boards, and 8 for 18 shooting all in 39 minutes.

Landry’s play in the final minute saved the game. He knocked down a jumper and completed a 3 point play. This put the Kings up 111 – 107. Granted the sad Wolves fought back with a lucky Ridnour three. Alas, the Kings were to much to handle as “Big Ball” Udrich assisted in a Casspi slam. There were some free throws and a Wolves score but at the end of the day the Kings held on for their first win of the year! As predicted the Kings are undefeated. This trend should continue Friday against the lowly Nets. Tyreke will start and the reigning ROA (rookie of the year) will put on a show.

I’ll break the game down in slow mo with my trusty TiVO and bring you all the odd tidbits for tomorrow’s perusing.

—Game Notes: The Wolves weren’t inept as Beasley put up 17 points (started real slow) and Ridnour had a fine all round game – 32 minutes, 20 points, 8 for 13 shooting, and 6 assists. Love was disappointing with 11 points and 4 for 11 shooting.
