76ers Hit A Wall, Edged By Wizards 116-115 In OT

If the Rookie of the Year award was based on just the results of the NBA season thus far, then rookie point guard John Wall of the Washington Wizards would probably win hands-down.

During the Tuesday night tilt between the Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards, Wall was “The Everyman” for 45 minutes.

He nearly pulled off an unconventional triple-double while adding four points and a steal in overtime, stealing the ball form fewllow rookie Evan Turner and leading Washington past Philadelphia in overtime 116-115 in the Wizards’ home opener.

The expected matchup between Wall and Turner was, for the most part, underwhelming except for the third quarter when Wall embarrased the rookie with a behind-the-back dribble; Turner would later force Wall to turn the ball over during consecutive possessions.

The game was nip-and-tuck, by and large, with the key moment being an inbound pass from Wall to Cartier, who would drain a 3-pointer with just 0.3 seconds left in regulation, thus sending the game into overtime.

The duo of Wall and Andray Blatche would dominate in the extra period as both combined for eight of the team’s 10 points, with Blatche draining two free throws with 7 ticks left on the game clock, sealing the win for Washington.

Wall had yet another impressive effort, leading the Wizards with 29 points, 2 rebounds, 13 assists and 9 steals, but turning the ball over 8 times while Blatche added 23 with 8 rebounds, an assist and a steal but also committing 6 turnovers. Nick Young, from off the bench, chipped in 20 (including three 3-pointers) with 2 rebounds and a steal.

The 76ers were led by bench player Lou Williams with 30 points, a rebound and 3 assists while Elton Brand added 21 with 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and a block. Jrue Holiday chipped in 14 with 3 rebounds, 13 assists and a steal, but also turning the ball over 6 times.

Washington (1-2) gets three days off until Friday when they travel to New York City to take on the Knicks while the winless 76ers (0-4) return home to host the Indiana Pacers Wednesday night.
