LeBron James. Dwyane Wade. Chris Bosh. I dare anyone to name a team that wouldn’t love to have this trio on their side.
One would think that with this “Big Three”, the Miami Heat would have a better record than the one they owned (5-3) prior to their game Thursday night against the Boston Celtics at American Airlines Arena.
Ray Allen would embarrass the Heat to the tune of 35 points, negating the effort of James, who also had 35 of his own. Boston lead from the tip-off to the final horn, sending Miami to their second consecutive loss at home 112-107.
The Celtics got off to a hot start early, making nine of their first 15 shots, including a breakaway dunk by Rajon Rondo which put Boston ahead 22-10.
The Celtics methodically built their lead to 61-46 at the intermission; when Wade got his first basket of the night in the third quarter, Allen would score five points within a 90-second span to increase Boston’s lead to 20.
When Udonis Haslem got the Heat to within 97-89 with 8:17 remaining, Nate Robinson hit a runner in the lane, followed quickly by Allen’s seventh trey of the game.
Miami go to within 110-107 on a pair of Haslem free throws with 13.3 seconds left, but Allen sealed the game for Boston with two free throws of his own.
Allen led the Celtics with 35 points (including 7 three-pointers) and a rebound while Paul Pierce added 25 with an assist. Kevin Garnett chipped in 16 with 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
The Heat were led by James with 35 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals while Haslem came off the bench to score 21 with 10 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. Bosh chipped in 15 with 7 rebounds, 2 assists and a block.
Boston (7-2) plays again on Saturday when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies while Miami (5-4) remains at home to host the Toronto Raptors – also on Saturday night.
