Attending another game live at the Garden, I received an early Christmas present by seeing the Knicks take care of the Oklahoma City Thunder, one of the best teams the West has to offer, 112-98.
The Good: Coming into this game Mike D’Antoni wanted to use his bench to eat up some minutes away from his starters. And it was Ronnie Turiaf who responded to D’Antoni wishes, coming off the bench last night with a very hard working, electric 21 minutes of play. As we all know, D’Antoni is going to have to keep going to his bench if the Knicks plan on making a run at the playoffs.
The Bad:Raymond Felton. I know I’m going to get a lot of heat on this one and don’t get me wrong I believe Felton has been playing above and beyond all expectations, but he is in a mini shooting slump. Over the past three games, he is shooting 17 for 45, which comes out to 37% from the field. Last night in particular, a lot of his shots were falling short, which again could all be from dead legs.
The Ugly:S. Ibaka for the Thunder. While I know Ibaka is primarily the team’s blue collar player whose job is to clean up the boards, when teams come to play the high scoring Knicks, they can’t afford to be playing a big man who goes 0-6 from the field and is quite frankly not an offensive threat.
Play of The Game:The Knicks overall play. First time I can remember all season that this team actually worked up a big lead and held onto it until the end.
What I liked:The big win against a tough Western Conference opponent, to the bring the Knicks up to .500 basketball playing at The Garden.
Next Up: Another huge game against an Eastern Conference opponent, the Chicago Bulls, noon on Christmas Day! Let’s see if the Knicks can step up their defense and be able to contain the deadly duo of Rose & Boozer.
