Another Long Night For Cleveland In Falling To Toronto 120-105

Night after night, game after game the Cavaliers are finding more and more ways to lose. Wednesday night at home in front of what seemed to be a crowd more worried about free mexican food and bobbleheads, the Cavs lost their 8th in a row, falling to the equally as sorry Toronto Raptors, 120-105.

Yes, fans will enjoy their free Taco Bell Chalupas, and they did have fun playing with their free Antwan Jamison bobbleheads, but what they didn’t enjoy was watching their home town team play what very well could have been their worst game of the season.

It was a tough night for the Cavs, who lost guard Daniel Gibson to a left ankle sprain. He had 13 points before exiting. They also didn’t even play J.J. Hickson, who seems to be in the doghouse of coach Byron Scott. Also leaving was Mo Williams, who got wrapped on the bench with an undisclosed injury, and didn’t come back.

The Raptors were led by Jose Calderon, who poured in 20 points and dished out a season-high 17 assists. Andrea Bargnani added 25 points and eight rebounds for the Raptors, who had lost their previous 11 games at Quicken Loans Arena. Leandro Barbosa tallied 22 points off the bench.

Julian Wright finished with 15 points and nine boards for Toronto, which snapped a three-game losing streak. DeMar DeRozan and Amir Johnson helped the Raptors with 13 and 12 points.

Jamison did his best to keep the Cavs in it, sa he made a season-high five three-pointers en route to 32 points. It was no use for the Cavaliers, who now have lost eight in a row to fall to 8-27 on the year. Christian Eyenga and Ramon Sessions each scored 16 points.

It started good for the Cavs, as they made 14-of-21 shots (66.7 percent) over the first 12 minutes to grab a 38-26 lead. It was Toronto that was hot from the field in the second quarter, making 15-of-23 shots (65.2 percent). The Raptors took a 66-63 edge into the locker room.

Holding a 75-74 lead near the midway mark of the third, the Raptors put together a 12-3 run to create some distance. Barbosa bookended the surge with a jumper and three-pointer for an 87-77 margin. Jamison’s runner with 3.3 seconds left cut the gap to 90-84 heading to the fourth.

Toronto started the fourth on a 10-3 flurry, which DeRozan capped with four straight points for a 100-87 lead. DeRozan scored five straight points moments later to make it a 105-90 contest with 7:48 to play. The Cavs never got closer than 10 the rest of the way.

The Cavs played with a lackluster effort, played confused with their heads down as they got behind, and never showed the heart that in seasons past made them one of the best teams in the NBA.

It will not get any easier for the Cavs, who now head on the road for their next five games. They will play the likes of Golden State, the Lakers, Nuggets and Utah. A long season is looking to get longer indeed.
