Ellis Buzzer-Beater Helps Warriors Edge Pacers 110-108

Folks who are NBA-knowledgeable already know that the Golden State Warriors are an offensive-minded team. The Indiana Pacers? Not so much.

As it were, these two teams got together for 48 minutes of hoops action at Oracle Arena; as it would turn out, both teams combined to play some entertaining basketball and the game would be relatively close. But it took a basket by Monta Ellis with less than a second left on the game clock to boost Golden State past Indiana 110-108.

Tyler Hansbrough scored 12 points in the opening period as the Pacers took the early lead. They would create a 17-2 run that bridged the first and second quarters to take an 11-point advantage.

Indiana would settle for a 58-53 lead going into the intermission.

The Warriors’ Acie Law hit a jumper from just inside the half-court stripe to end the third quarter, bringing Golden State to within 83-81 going into the fourth quarter.

The Pacers led 105-103 when Ellis took a charge with 2:28 left in the game and drained a jumper 23 seconds later to tie the game at 105. Indiana would turn the ball over on their next possession, allowing Golden State to take the lead on a David Lee free throw.

Another turnover by the Pacers led to Curry’s running bank shot, giving the Warriors a three-point lead; Darren Collison tied the game with a three-point play with 18 seconds remaining.

After a Golden State timeout, Ellis took the inbounded pass from Brandan Wright and held the ball against Brandon Rush at the top of the key with 12 ticks left on the game clock. He made a move to his right and drained the game-winner over Rush.

Ellis led the Warriors with a game-high 36 points, along with 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals while Lee and Dorell Wright each added 21 – with Lee grabbing 9 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists while Wright grabbed a pair of boards, dished out 3 assists, along with 4 steals and 2 blocks.

Danny Granger led all Pacers scorers with 32 points (including 4 three-pointers), along with 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and a block, but also committed 7 turnovers while Hansbrough added 16 with 5 rebounds and an assist. Collison and Mike Dunleavy chipped in 14 apiece – with Collison grabbing a rebound, dishing out 5 assists, along with a steal while Dunleavy grabbed 5 boards and dished out 4 assists.

Golden State (18-23) plays again on Friday night when they host the Sacramento Kings while Indiana (16-23) flies north to Portland to take on the Trail Blazers on Saturday.
