The Sacramento Kings, without a doubt, miss Tyreke Evans not being in their lineup as he tries to recover from a foot injury.
As it were, Jermaine Taylor took Evans’ place at the point guard position and didn’t embarrass himself during his nearly 39 minutes on the hardwood, scoring 17 points as the Kings took on the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night at American Airlines Center.
A huge 24-4 run in the thir squarter would be that Dallas would need as they easily disposed of Sacramento 116-100.
The Kings led early on with a six-point lead in the first quarter, but the Mavericks tied it up at the end of the period and were up by 13 at halftime.
Dallas nearly let that lead dissipate until Jason Kidd and Rodrigue Beaubois put together a 13-0 run, which was stretched to 24-4 in the third quarter. As it would turn out, the fourth quarter was 12 minutes of the reserves for both teams getting extra playing time.
Eight – count’em, eight! – Mavericks players scored in double-digits, led by Kidd with 20 points (including six 3-pointers), along with 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals while Shawn Marion came off the bench to score 14 with 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal. Dirk Nowitzki and Beaubois added 13 apiece – with Nowitzki grabbing 3 boards, and dishing out 4 assists while Beaubois grabbed a rebound, dished out 6 assists, along with 3 steals.
The Kings were led by Taylor with 17 points (including three treys), along with 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and a block while the trio of Beno Udrih, DeMarcus Cousins and Donte Greene each chipped in 16 – with Udrih grabbing a rebound, dishing out 7 assists, along with 2 steals while Cousins grabbed 12 boards, dished out 4 assists, along with 3 steals and 2 blocks but also turning the ball over 7 times. Greene grabbed a rebound, along with a steal and a block.
Dallas (39-16) plays again on Thursday when they travel to Phoenix to take on the Suns while Sacramento (13-40) doesn’t play again until after the All-Star break, as they travel to Miami to take on the Heat next Tuesday.
