Frye Jumper At Horn Boosts Suns Over Pacers 110-108 In OT

Channing Frye hit a jumper at the buzzer of OT at Indianapolis to beat the Pacers, 110-108 on Sunday.

The Phoenix Suns and Indiana Pacers are in very similar situations in terms of their playoff seedings; the Suns are in 10th in the Western Conference playoff chase while the Pacers are tied for 8th with the Charlotte Bobcats in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt.

As you can surmise from that, both teams are scratching and clawing to get in the backdoor.

Both teams got together at Conseco Fieldhouse for a Sunday tilt which, if you look at both teams, tend to lead to the conclusion that there would be plenty of offense.

On that note, neither team disappointed. The game was very competitive, as well. So much so that it took a jumper by Channing Frye at the final horn in overtime to help Phoenix edge Indiana 110-108.

The Suns led at halftime 60-51 on the strong efforts of Grant Hill and would increase their advantage to 82-67 late in the third quarter. The Pacers would rally in the fourth, taking a 97-96 lead on a Jeff Foster basket with just over two minutes to go in regulation.

But Phoenix tied the game at 99 on a 3-pointer by Hill with 44.4 seconds left, sending the game into overtime.

During the extra period, Indiana’s Josh McRoberts tied the game at 108 on a 3-point play, with Frye committing the foul, with 23.9 seconds left in OT. But Frye would redeem himself as he would connect on the game-winner at the horn from 23 feet out, sealing the win for the Suns.

Hill led the Suns with a game- and season high of 34 points (along with three 3-pointers), along with 9 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a block while Marcin Gortat came off the bench to add 17 with 11 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block. Jared Dudley also came off the bench, scoring 15 with 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block while Frye chipped in 14 with 10 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block.

The Pacers were led by Danny Granger with 25 points (including three 3-pointers), along with 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and a block while A.J. Price added 18 (including four treys) from off the bench with 5 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Tyler Hansbrough chipped in 13 with 5 rebounds, a steal and a block.

Phoenix (30-27) plays again on Monday night as they travel to Newark to take on the New Jersey Nets while Indiana (26-32) remains at home to host the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.
