Derrick Rose has been the fire that has kept the Chicago Bulls as the leaders in the Eastern Conference. With a convincing 101-84 win over the Charlotte Bobcats, the Bulls have clinched a playoff spot and hold a one and a half game lead over the Boston Celtics. Following the playoff clinching win over the Bobcats, Michael Jordan had this to say on Rose’s performance, “MVP of the season. He deserves it.”
Rose has been an early favorite for MVP and if he can keep his current performance up, he will be a lock as a clear cut MVP winner. Leading the Bulls to wins through countless injuries to key big men like Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer. Rose has shown that even at his young age, he can compete and even defeat some of the top teams in the NBA, which is why the Bulls are now leading the Eastern Conference.
When Rose found out that Jordan had said that he was the MVP he said, “That’s huge, man. When the person that you’re playing behind, all you hear about is Mike, especially in Chicago, look up to him. For him to say that, it’s unbelievable. It’s an honor and I’m speechless right now.” Receiving any amount of praise from a legend like Jordan would be huge motivator going into the final stretch of the season.
Rose looks to carry the Bulls to the top seed in the East, and has said that he will talk to Jordan more about the MVP comments later in the season. “No, I didn’t talk to him,” Rose said. “But probably in the playoffs.”
