It now appears that Rick Adelman will not return next season as the Houston Rockets head coach. There was speculation surrounding the security of his job near the middle of this season, and it has now been confirmed that Adelman will not return for the 2011 season. Houston made the decision to not renew Adelman’s contract, which is the effect of not retaining the tenured head coach.
The Associated Press source has requested anonymity, as the Rockets still have not held an official press conference in regards to the matter. The decision is expected to be officially announced on Monday, and that will be the official end of Adelman in Houston.
During Adelman’s time as the Rockets head coach he had an all-time 193-135 record, taking Houston to the playoffs one time. The Rockets have failed to make it back into the postseason and the organization is looking to revamp and reorganize.
The release of Adelman will be the first of many changes in Houston, and another likely move will be releasing the long-time Rocket, Yao Ming. Some believe that the only reason Ming was still in Houston was because of Adelman.
