Despite What Critics Say, Kemba’s NBA Career Will Be: “All Net”
My Take on Kemba Walker:
Kemba Walker, PG, Connecticut: Now & Then NBA Comparison - Monta Ellis/Kevin Johnson. You could have made a valid case for Kemba as the Naismith Award Winner in college hoops this past season. He carried an average Huskies club to the top, leading them along such a special run I’ve never seen done before. Walker’s superb leadership ability is something champions are made of. While he showed excellent composure through tough situations, it was a well-balanced skill set on display which caught my attention the most.
Kemba is a legitimate mid-range threat and has blazing quickness to the cup. At times he is he cannot be guarded. Whether it’s getting to the bucket with laughable ease or scorching the nets with his shot, Walker is the most explosive scorer in this year’s Draft; and I’m a fan of Derrick Williams and Jimmer Fredette. The UConn superstar reminds me of Monta Ellis with his ability to score so smoothly and Parker with his unreal skill to drive. He has a rare, unique blend of balance in his scoring arsenal. He’s more of a scoring PG than Kyrie Irving, similar to Derrick Rose, without as much of the upper body strength and in-air body control; however, he’s just as sensational when in attack mode. My Take on Kyrie Irving:
Kyrie Irving, PG, Duke: Now & Then NBA Comparison – Chris Paul/Isiah Thomas. The new generation point guard is a beauty to watch. A thing to behold, the floor general nowadays is as entertaining a player to watch than at any time in the Association. Coach K’s freshman fits the description of the lead man you want to help turn your sputtering squad around, from lottery-team to playoff-club. The evolution of the PG calls for him to not only navigate and command the team, but to score without hesitation, drive at will, and be the face of the franchise.
Kyrie is a sure thing to be that “next guy” and is the undisputed #1 overall pick, which he deserves despite popular belief this is a weak draft class. This kid is already polished, so much, I think he could come in right away and replace Chris Paul with New Orleans, and do the same things Paul does, if not even better. Agreed, Kemba should be a superstar in the NBA. Connecticut has put several top players through to the NBA elite (think Ray Allen). It’s funny that there wasn’t much talk about him in the beginning of the college season, and that many outlets didn’t even have UCONN ranked in the top 25. How a season can change.
Kemba gives you so much on the offensive end. So many moves and he’s also underrated as a passer and defender. Strong will, tough kid. It’s impressive to see him get the separation off the bounce and still get the lift on his jumper, which by the way, has really nice form. He always finds a way to get to the line, too. Think Ben Gordon-like contributions as a rookie. Then after, the sky’s the limit. He is a capable 20 ppg scorer in the Association.
