Talk Is Cheap: Terry’s Game All Hype, No Show

No Excuses Left For Terry

Time to put up or shut up.  It looks like Mavs guard Jason Terry plans to neither.

The best time to put up is in the fourth quarter, a time where Terry’s game has been shut up by the fiery Heat defense, namely LeBron.

Terry, unafraid of taking big shots, but not necessarily making them, is a combined 0-of-7 in the fourth quarters of the Mavericks’ two losses in the NBA Finals.  Dirk is well aware of “Jet’s” late-game misfires.

“They keep sticking him [LeBron] on Jet in the fourth quarters and he’s been doing a good job,” Nowitzki said. “Jet hasn’t really been a crunch-time, clutch player for us the way we need him to.”

It’s clear Dirk’s shoulders have been overwhelmingly tired from carrying Terry and the rest of the Mavs streaky shooters.  Still, that doesn’t keep Terry from yapping.

“They know to take me out of the fourth quarter, which they didn’t do in Game 2,” Terry said of the Heat putting LeBron on him, “then they got a good chance.”

Added Terry: “Let’s see if [LeBron] can defend me like that for seven games.”

Too bad Terry may not have the luxury of redeeming himself in a full seven game series, if he continues to play the way he’s been playing.  When it comes to making a fool out of one’s self, leave it to Terry to provide us the best example.

“I had two opportunities,” Terry said. “One in the corner for 3, LeBron closed out. The other one in the right corner, LeBron closed out again, didn’t get enough air under it.

“Hey, it happens. If I get those same shots in Game 4, I bet I make them.”  The only thing I’m betting on, is Terry making excuses for his poor play after another loss after tonight.

“It’s a call to arms. One man’s not going to win it,” Terry said. “Obviously, the big-wig [Dirk] is going to need to get some help, and I’m going to tell you this — that we will be there in Game 4.”

Shots will be there, but will he and the other Mavs show up to help support Dirk?  It’s highly unlikely – due to the mightily impressive D of Miami.

Speaking of the Miami D, the response from the guy that’s silencing the Mavs’ shrinking bench player was spot-on as usual.

“We saw it, we watch ‘SportsCenter.”

“Those guys have a right to say what they want to say,” LeBron said. “For me and D-Wade, we’re going to let our game do the talking. Those guys have the right to say what they want to say.”

With that said, Terry will have the right to remain silent if he falls short again – unless he wants to further his shame and kill his credibility, well, that’s already a done deal when you consider this newest episode of laughable antics.
