GM’s Around The NBA View Jonas As A Slam Dunk
The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to take the 6-foot 11, 240-pound Lithuanian center Jonas Valanciunas with the No. 4 pick, even if Enes Kanter is still on the board, according to league sources via ESPN’s Ric Bucher.
The thought is Valanciunas will not hold the option to elude his current contract with Lietuvos Rytas until January, at the earliest, but that does not intimidate the Cavaliers; who sources say compare Valanciunas admirably to Lakers’ big man Pau Gasol.
With Kanter expected to go third to Utah, the debate between centers will not factor into the equation, making the selection of Jonas an easy decision for Cleveland. But I thought they wanted an “immediate contributor” with the No. 4 pick?
Is GM Chris Grant holding something back, trying to make a move behind the scenes? Could he have his eyes on another coveted lottery-pick big man? Are the Cavs in the hunt to make a trade? Find out at Cavaliers Gab
