NBA commissioner David Stern desires improvement in the NBA’s collective bargaining discussion by Labor Day. Looks like his wish will be granted.
Officials from the league and players’ association will join to chat again next week, sources with insight of the alleged idea reported to The Associated Press on Thursday. It will be only the second chance leaders from both parties will visit since the lockout started July 1.
“If Labor Day comes and goes without us huddled in ready to kiss off our Labor Day weekend to make this deal, then we may be headed to a bad place,” Stern said via an ESPN.com podcast earlier this month.
Next week’s talks will feature the main men from both sides: Stern and Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver, and union executive director Billy Hunter and president Derek Fisher of the Lakers.
With no leads in resolution yet, some believe the NBA will surrender games to a work stoppage for only the second time in its existence.
Lakers forward Luke Walton, who’s performing as an assistant coach at Memphis during the lockout, said dealmaking might not be initiated until preseason contests begin getting axed.

Would be nice if this could be all sorted before November.
