Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said small forward Paul Pierce, who is sidelined for tonight’s game in Miami, will also sit out Wednesday’s visit to New Orleans with lingering pain from a bruised right heel.
The Kansas product suffered the bruise during the team’s first practice session of training camp and has been sidelined since. He went through a workout Monday and experienced less soreness than he had previously after increasing his activity, but he’s still not ready to get on the hardwood.
Pierce was one of the first players on the court at Celtics shootaround Tuesday morning at American Airlines Arena and shot around at both ends of the court — and even dunked a few times.
After missing nearly all of training camp due to the injury, it is still unclear whether or not he will be prepared to play in the team’s home opener on Friday against the Detroit Pistons.
