Detroit Pistons head coach Flip Saunders was still shaken on Thursday, that fate kept him out of harms way. Saunders who was the former coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and a star player at the?University of Minnesota, was a guest speaker Wednesday at Tubby Smith’s basketball camp which was held at the University. Saunders was heading home when the bridge collapsed that killed six people. Saunders estimates that he was only twenty yards away from the collapsing structure, and that he would have been on the bridge at the time of the collapse if he had taken his normal route home. Fortunately a construction detour prevented him from taking his usual course. Saunders speaking to reporters on Thursday said that a day later he was still in what he described as”a surreal state of mind. I can still see what happened. it’s kind like having flashbacks.” Saunders said that as soon as the bridge collapsed he got out of his car and called 911.
